First, where the hell do you find a 4gb hard drive for $650? The best price I found was just under $800. Second of all, what happens if you need that next gig? Another $800 hard drive, or a $129 Jazz disk. Third, a SCSI hard drive (particularly a $650 model) may be faster than the scsi Jazz, but certainly not multiples faster. SCSI itself just ain't that fast.

If your using this space as backup, there is a durability factor. Which would you rather drop, a HD or a jazz disk?

While I think hard drive prices will continue to fall, there is a reason they have dropped this low - demand. There is also a bottom. Hard drive companies tend to run razor thin margins as it is, so they can't keep lowering prices forever.

I agree with you that in some cases hard drives do make more sense. I don't think Jazz will ever be the revenue maker that Zip is for IO. It is far more of a niche product. But obviously Seagate sees the potential, as they have agreed to make the cartridges, and they know much more about the hard drive business than we do.
