Some thoughts about using the VRD in a flying environment. It's not clear from the Seattle Times article if the difficulty of directing the beam onto the retina was due to vibration or high G-forces.

Speaking as a mechanical engineer, vibration can be solved a couple of different ways. By isolating the source of the vibration, isolating the occupant or a combination of both. There are engineering techniques and products that can be used to dampen unwanted vibration. For example, the familiar shock absorber that uses springs and compressed gas, or even something simple as a rubber washer called a rubber-in-shear isolator.

High G-forces that a jet fighter pilot encounters when doing tricky midair maneuvers are more difficult to analyze. This normally require physiological studies of the interaction between the pilot and his environment, (and VRD) in actual or simulated conditions. This is where the resources at Boeing, Ericsson Saab, et al can be helpful. I believe the relationship between MVIS and these companies is a cooperative, working one, to assist each other in solving these type of challenges.

Bottom line: The company's affiliation with these aerospace giants and the University of Washington is an asset that shouldn't be overlooked. With these resources available, I believe the company will sell the Army on using the VRD.
