I don't want to be perceived as taking up for Alex, but maybe he was thinking of the incident in which the notorious hacker Kevin Mitnik was tracked down while he was using a cellular modem. I read about it a couple of years ago in some book called Take Down. Don't bother to look it up, it was a terrible book, nothing more than an exercise in self-aggrandizement by the author.
