CSCC and ASND had talked for quite a while before they agreed to merge. Both saw the synergies of merging and there were also few overlaps. If you think about a company that now sells compatible equipment on both sides of the line, both of which have "best of breed" products, it makes a lot of sense. It took the slowdown in Q1 1998 to finally push them together. The combined company is better than either one would have been separately - which is why companies merge. Oops. It like like I misread your post and responded to a different question. Oh, well.
