gypsy, the very nature of the mermaid in folklore history is sexual. After all, she did sit on a rock, combing her long, luscious hair, luring ships inhabited by men, to their doom with her sexy, siren songs and phony promises of fleshly delights.

Phony you say.. Yes, I mean phoney, she did have a tail and was quite incapable of, well you know what I mean. So maybe, Shields was correct in her assessment, the mermaid was definitely nonsexual. As for the tail being a phallic symbol. Well, thats another story...hehehe
