Greg, Dell increases shares on a need basis only it seems to me.

They authorized 1 billion shares at mid year to clear the way for the split we will go thru this week.

The last report had Dell with 321/353 million shares pre-split. After the split that put Dell with 642/706 million shares.

At this point Dell could not do another 2/1 split. In order to do another 2/1 split Dell would need raise the number of shares again or another plan.

I don't know if the 1 billion shares authorized is measured against the actual shares outstanding or the diluted shares. Does anyone out there know?

In other words, if Dell were to buyback 142 million shares, could Dell do another 2/1 split?

142 million is a bunch of shares so I would expect the number of shares authorized to be increased again or for Dell to do a 3/2 split next go around.
