I rationalize AAPL's decision as follows. * There wasn't enough margin. * I could compete with their own low-end laptop products. * They couldn't make enough cash off a sale/spin off. * Also, they didn't want a deep-pocket competitor taking over the platform till their own Mac-lite product was ready. * Taking public statements at face value, they couldn't maintain the r/d needed to keep it competitive and are positioning a One-OS-fits-all to take up the handheld slack. soup
