At the annual meeting his excuse for selling was that he needed to diversify his portfolio. And he's still selling and selling and selling.

This morning I bought Novell March 10 Puts at 3/8. I mention that here because this is one of the few threads, at least up until now, where full disclosure has been operable and people have not engaged in "bull" vs "bear" flaming that causes people to stop sharing information.

This is not a recommendation of any kind. It is simply a statement of what I did with my money.

Gates is in Washington making the rounds. He could buy Congress and they know it.

Last night I was reading a speech given by Noah Webster in 1785. By today's standards this Founding Father (responsible for copyright protection) was a radical republican.

He was against aristocracy, including those that develop out of a concentration of wealth. He saw the European system of inherited privilege and office as inevitably choking off public speech and liberty as conflicts of class emerged and the more powerful oppressed the less powerful. He believed we would escape all of Europe's mistakes with the checks and balances in our Constitution.

I guess he never would have imagined that a Bill Gates would come along, someone with enough money to corrupt the entire Congress regardless of the competing interests of the constituencies they represent. Someone with the monopoly means to control public discourse. Now that Bill is in Washington, look-out.
