Some Background for new posters

In January 1997, Intel speeded its enterprise drive in
an OEM agreement with NBase Communications, in
Chatsworth, Calif., for its 10/100-megabit Fast
Ethernet switch technology, which began shipping in
April with Layer 3 routing. Also in January, Intel
bought an equity stake in Xircom, in Thousand Oaks,
Calif., for its NIC technology, and bought router and
Fast Ethernet switch maker Case Technology of
Copenhagen, Denmark.
