Martin:

Thanks for the response but I'm still unclear.

This came from FTEL's site under the specifications for the Tempest:

>>Each voice port is a Central Office, FXS appearance and has built in Ringer for a Modem, Telephone or PBX, or FXO (Foreign Exchange Office) appearance to receive a telco trunk line interface. The Analog Voice Cards are MVIP Compliant.<<

I still think 1 T1 will accommodate 24 simultaneous conversations - not 12. Otherwise 2 ports, not 1, would be required for a Central Office.

Perhaps the system requires in-bound and out-bound ports to be configured differently. But once the call is establish by either party, a complete bidirectional conversation would occur on 1 channel and not 2. That would justify the argument for 12 ports = 12 conversations but I'm fairly confident the Tempest will support 24 simultaneous conversations, regardless of where the call was originated.

Again I may be wrong - happens every day! <ggg>

Can someone help settle this?

- Pat
