Paul and others:

You should be pretty skeptical about the spin put out by some analyst (particularly someone as savvy as Gardner of SSB, who reportedly downgraded his estimates of DELL's fiscal 1999 earnings on 2/13) who cites unnamed "sources" for his "stuffed channel" report on CPQ. Check out the following links, which I would typically regard as being more reliable, legitimate sources of information:

techweb.com

techweb.cmp.com

techweb.com

Then ask yourself how could Gardner put out such a report? Then ask yourself why? After you've considered the possibilities for a few seconds, back up the portfolio truck and load up on CPQ shares/options while they're beaten down to their current ridiculous underpriced levels, and before the big customers of SSB (and the other brokerage houses) suck up all the shares small investors have been conned into unloading. I carefully tracked trades and block sizes on CPQ after the SSB downgrade, and let me tell you, there's been virtually no unloading by the big guys. So you know where are all those shares are currently sitting. Get some while you can!

Good luck with your investing!

David T.

P.S. Disclosure: I hold a ton of both DELL and CPQ, and so have no particular axe to grind.
