This brings me to one of my earlier posts where I questioned why is Asian demand strong for dell but weak for cpq. The truth is that asian demand is what it is - both for dell and cpq and they are the same!! My tongue in cheek post about Mr. Joe Asia shunning cpq computer because he is broke and then buying a dell computer instead is just that - an effort to get people thinking about the bs coming out of Dell's mouth. Demand in asia is not terrific for Michael Dell as he claims and then crappy for cpq. The difference folks is that Michael Dell likes to spew bs. Eckhardt can't do it. It runs agains his nature. If the sky is grey and rain drops are beginning - cpq will tell you raining cats and dogs. It's a fundamental cultural dlifference.

Remember - Michael Dell was in college building computers out of his dorm room and selling them on a pay as you go basis. He bought excess ibm inventory for 10 cents on the dollar and stuck his name on it for 1/3 the price. That's how he started (all the power to him). He is used to telling the yarn. It's what he is about; it is a part of his personality; It is as much a part of Michael Dell as Mickey Mouse is to Disney. He is a type A talker. Eckhardt and cpq are not a part of that culture. Period.
