Patrick,

I did a Meathead style comparison of DELL and CPQ for comparable workstations pricing.

DELL appears to be about 1,000 less than CPQ on the Model 6300
2D and double headed monitor worstations or about 74% of CPQ's street price. Also, in several cases you get more hard disk capacity for the same money. So you get more for less money. DELL's pricing is a killer! They are priced to grab marketshare.

I suspect that CPQ's problems with BTO are severe and have not been fully reported yet. I believe we will be hearing more bad news out of CPQ in the comming months.

Inspection of their website shows clearly that their web offering are not anywhere near as extensive as DELL's. There is a lot less configurability in their offering. Their offering's are not IMO competitive. For example, they offer only 17 " monitor options with their Desktops.

Their 10K's show about 4.4 weeks inventory while DELL is at 7 days.
This is perhaps an insurmountable DELL lead.

This is pricing issue bad news for CPQ and good news for DELL.
I expect DELL to maintain its growth rates. It is even possible that they will accelerate!
