Doug, all I can say is that somebody out there sure likes to ride this stock; from 13.5 in 94 to 69 few months ago with all sort of wild gyrations in between. Often with large volume. They take it up and they throw it down. Way up and way down. And yet they always come back hungrier than before. Why? The quarterly EPS were pitiful: 25c,
30c whatever, nothing to write home about. After thinking about it long and hard I think we go back to TMs vision of what a Telecom backbone ought to look like: ATM based. Nobody has a better vision.
Through technical problems and expenses they see him stick it out over years and slowly he has all sorts of big customers/nations on the bandwagon. And people may have figured out also were the earnings go: into R&D: the lifeblood of technology. Without it you slowly bleed to death. But TM doesn't care. It is his company and he was willing it eat the losses to achieve his end. I think UB Networks was an aberration. We all make mistakes. Even Intel has failed to see the microelectronic gizmo explosion and to provide to profit from it;
Groves is playing catch up; he'll get there. I think that people see that TM will get there. Whether it's through big new contracts or a
buy out. Cisco paid 8 bill I think for Stratacom.With NN's 170 mill shares that would come to ~50/ share. And that's without frosting. You put that in, and NN is a much better company than Stratacom, then 10-13 bill would be reasonable, or $70+/share. That's peanuts for NT or AGSiemens.
Just a wild guess,
