My guestimates would be that near 'Nawrlens, Big Muddy is about 1/2 mile across and about 20 feet deep. I'd guess that the average flow is about 5 miles per hour (averaged across the fast central part and the slower current near the sides). 5 miles per hour = ~26,500 feet per hour.

Anyone from around there that can tell me right or wrong?

That gives us 2650*20*53000 = 1,404,500,000 cubic feet per hour. TADA!

(So I'm off by a factor of 1,000!?! Big deal! I said a ROUGH estimate! ;-) I'm sure one of you fine people will point out which of my guestimates was really out of whack, right? I suspect maybe the size of the basin or the rainfall amount per year...)

Anyway, getting people to think is the point of this thread.
