I believe the product announced is 4x write, 12X read, this is similar to products that TEAC and JVC have out on the market. The cheapest prices I see for the TEAC brand is $535 for an external model and $593 for the JVC brand. Pinnacle has the MSRP for their external model at $599, so it is possible that retail it will be at a competitive price with the TEAC brands. The difference is that these prices are for stand-alone drives. The advantage of the Pinnacle Micro drive is that it comes with software, the controller card required, two blank CDs, "and more" (as the press release states). It certainly seems like a competitive product to me at first glance.....better wait for some reviews to be sure, but all in all, it CAN'T really be a bad thing that they have a new product. I'm only worried about the longer term issues here.....does CDR really have that much of a future left? Can Pinnacle survive as a company that does nothing but make these drives?
