My e-mail to Squawk Box [squawk@cnbc.com] --More, please!
>HDTV rollout is --finally!-- happening in 1998. >But I hear precious little about it on CNBC. >Isn't right now the time to take positions?
>Look at ZE, for example, crawling along at $6 or $7, >and look at the spike it did from $6 to $26 in May of '96. >Wasn't that when Congress approved the Zenith-invented VSB >(Vestigial Side Band) technology for transmitting digital TV?
>Now HDTV is really coming, ZE has a new CEO and CFO >(Gannon and Dangremond, both turnaround specialists), >contracts with Americast (settop boxes) and Intel (PC add-ons for digital TV); >they have HDTV-capable sets in production >and VSB royalties waiting, but the stock is back in the 6-to-7 dollar range.
>Isn't it time you interviewed the CEO on Squawk Box??
>Your faithful viewer
Robert Utne, post #4516, seriously doubted that this would work because
"CEO's only show when they got some big/bullish news to spread, following a press release."
That's probably true of Power Lunch, but on Squawk Box you see all sorts: scandals, lawsuits, turnarounds, anything newsworthy.
Let's give it a try! Yes?
