Broadcom Corporation Files for IPO
Description: Broadcom's semiconductors are used in broadband (high-speed) data and video transmission products. The company controls the market for cable modems and digital set-top boxes. Its chips are also used in products for the Ethernet networking, digital broadcast satellite, and digital subscriber line markets. Broadcom's customers include Cisco, Motorola, Northern Telecom, Scientific-Atlanta, and Samsung. It has international sales offices in the Netherlands, Singapore, and the UK. Broadcom filed to go public in early 1998. Founders Henry Nicholas III (co-chairman, president, and CEO) and Henry Samueli (co-chairman, VP of engineering, and chief technology officer) each own 28.5% of the company.
