HerbVic,

You miss the big point that I am trying to get across. Put yourself in my position in a cash strapped environment where hardware purchases are rightfully scrutinized. We wish that we can just wave a magic wand and get the latest and greatest. Anyone who thinks it works like that needs to get a reality check. For the past several years, Apple has been in the dog house. Recommending Apple products to those who always had their reservations was always an uphill battle. Just to do all the justification to get the funding takes time and by the time everything is approved, something else may have filled its place. Many of us understand this as well as technological obsolescence and very few of us deny todays high end products are tomorrows low end.

What is important is that Apple has a PROVEN track record for dropping support of technologies that they sold in a very short time frame and that we as customers ended up on the short end of the stick. Put yourself in my position and tell me what you would tell the people who begrudgingly approved the money for these, that will be breathing down your neck asking you some questions like, "how can you be sure that Apple won't repeat this in the future?". Re-read my messages to get the gist of what I am trying to get across. Multiply that across many other educators across the country and potentially abroad that also feel the same. It is one thing to drop a product for something better because it is obsolete. It is another to drop all further development and support for things like bug fixes. The issue is the WAY Apple is handling it and not technological obsolescence. Many of the critical issues are being left unanswered. Local marketing reps offer no better answers at this time either since they have to preach the same corporate bull. Many of us are taking this as a slap in the face and feel that Apple should have addressed the issues that many educators will be required to answer to those who hold the purse strings. Again, put yourself in the shoes of an educator that has to face these tough questions and see how you would feel about Apple if in the same position.
