<(Which of coure doesn't mean that the longs won't be able to ride the current cycle out of its bottom very profitably - and if there's ever a sign that the cycle has been broken, then multiple expansion should make the sector a hugely profitable one.)>

then multiple expansion Are you going back into the "multiple expansion" theory which seems to have been the cause of all this problem? Can you really suggest an effective storage cartel fixing prices and assuring higher profits?

Problem with comparing airlines and aluminum to storage is they are both strategic assets governments wish to protect. Probably short sighted on the part of governments.

The Koreans do see these technologies as strategic investments that will assure their role in the future. That is why we aren't sure to see Samsung abandon failing assets like their storage program. I suppose the question is will economics and IMF muscle force them to do it.

The same would be true for Australia in regards to aluminum, coal, wood, etc. They are a commodities based society. They will fight to maintain their aluminum production despite serious environmental issues and falling profits. You sometimes wonder why a supposed western, more enlightened society would allow wholesale destruction of the environment in a condition where they are not at least making a profit?

Regards,

Mark
