DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1998--CT EXPO
VCS Products Now Available On Three Major Open System Platforms Representing More Than 85% Market Share
Voice Control Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:VCSI), a leading developer of speech recognition and speech software platforms, today announced that it has integrated its host-based FreedomRecognition(tm) with Lucent's RealCT(tm) Release 2 API, making it the only speech recognition supplier that has technology available on three major open system platforms: Dialogic, Natural MicroSystems, and now Lucent Technologies. Together, these companies ship more than 85 percent of all open standards-based hardware in the computer telephony industry. Through this latest integration, companies using open platforms from these leading vendors can provide their customers with the most natural way for people to communicate, speech. Based on the same technology found in Voice Control Systems' SpeechWave(tm) software platform, FreedomRecognition is a cost-effective, host-based speech recognition solution that provides VCS' field-proven speech technology without the need for costly digital signal processing boards, reducing the cost of speech-enabling applications by as much as 50 percent. This major cost reduction allows the benefits of a natural speech recognition interface to now be affordable for entirely new market segments, from small voice mail systems to customer-based voice response systems such as telephone banking, to voice driven call directors. Available in nearly 40 languages, FreedomRecognition can be used to speech-enable standard dual tone multi frequency or continuous digit applications. Advanced features such as Personal Vocabularies(tm) are also available as an option, for applications requiring personal databases such as telephone and address directories. "The integration of FreedomRecognition with Lucent's RealCT Release 2 API demonstrates VCS' long-standing commitment to make available the broadest range of speech technologies on the greatest number of industry-leading platforms," said Peter Foster, president and chief executive officer of Voice Control Systems. "With speech recognition technology now ported to three major open system platforms, VCS is the only speech software provider with more than 85 percent coverage of the open computer telephony market, furthering our objective of making speech recognition affordable and available to application developers in as many environments as possible." Voice Control Systems is a leading speech software platform provider, offering vocabularies in over 50 languages with more than 2.5 million recognizers, including 500,000 in telecom, installed in 30 countries. Speech-driven applications using VCS products are used today in telecommunications, automotive, consumer electronics, and interactive multimedia software to enable computers and electronic devices to understand and process human speech. VCS is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with regional offices in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Portsmouth, England. The company's stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol VCSI. For more information visit the company's web site at voicecontrol.com.
