(NASDAQ: ASND) today announced that ITC^DeltaCom (NASDAQ: ITCD) will deploy Ascend's CBX 500 Multiservice ATM switch to scale its existing B-STDX 9000 Frame Relay network and position itself for providing ATM service offerings. The West Point, GA-based interexchange carrier, which is an emerging Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), also will purchase Ascend's NavisCore and NavisXtend network management products including the NavisXtend Statistics, Report, Provisioning, Fault, and Customer Network Management servers. It will deploy both Ascend CBX 500 Multiservice ATM and B-STDX 9000 Multiservice Frame Relay switches to expand its network geographically, stay ahead of the growth of its current enhanced data customers and add more redundancy and processing power to facilitate the delivery of additional features and services. ITC^DeltaCom currently has owned and managed networks throughout ten southern states in the US. "In addition to providing guaranteed Quality of Service, the CBX 500 delivers carrier-class features such as seamless integration with the B-STDX 9000, cost-effectiveness, and reliability which are essential for growing our data service offering," said Steve Moses, Senior Vice President of Network Services, ITC^DeltaCom. "End-to-end service management also was a critical deciding factor for us. With their client/server architecture and open interfaces, the NavisXtend servers will allow us to dramatically reduce operational costs thereby making our services more competitive." ITC^DeltaCom currently is offering Frame Relay data services from its existing B-STDX 9000 network. Some of the company's business communications services include local exchange service, long distance, enhanced data, Internet, and operator services, and the sale and maintenance of customer premise equipment. The company will use the CBX 500 and NavisXtend products to grow this network and offer new services including enhanced Frame Relay, reporting, billing and ATM, among others. "We are pleased to build upon our current relationship with ITC^DeltaCom," said Dan Smith, Ascend Executive Vice President and General Manager, Core Systems Division. "This purchase further reaffirms our leading position in supplying backbone ATM and Frame Relay networks to the service provider market." ITC^DeltaCom has begun deploying the Ascend CBX 500 and Navis management products. It expects to complete deployment during the first quarter of this year.
