IE 5 to ditch Active Channels news.com

Dang, the news is hot and heavy today.

After it touted heavily the addition of an "Active Channels" feature into its latest Web browser to automatically push content to users' desktops, Microsoft (MSFT) plans to eliminate that feature in its next version of Internet Explorer.

This information came to light during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing today dubbed "Market Power and Structural Change in the Software Industry." Microsoft chief executive Bill Gates and several foes of the software giant were panelists at the hearing.

Things like this come up in the strangest places. No shortage of PR on what might be in NT5, someday, maybe, but this one sort of just slipped out. Strange.

Cheers, Dan.
