TD ** E-commerce patents granted, fees sought Internet commerce pioneer Open Market Inc. (OMKT) announced it has received three U.S. patents that "cover fundamental technology for conducting business over the Internet and give Open Market broad intellectual property protection on its innovative technology." Gary Eichhorn, president and CEO, added the patents open the way for the company to sell its products (Transact 4, LiveCommerce and Folio) and to negotiate licensing agreements. "It is our intent to make the technology covered by these patents broadly available and to encourage the continued rapid evolution of commerce over the Web," he said. The patents cover technology permitting real-time payment using credit and debit cards over the Internet, electronic shopping carts, and the ability to analyze how users browse through content on a Web site.
