Not to beat a dead horse...but,

Buzzzzzz.... You are wrong.....

Companies that have these patents may collect royalties, however
this is the exception - not the rule..... especially in THIS industry.

NO...more often than not these companies give up the royalties in order to have their technology adopted widely. Then they leverage
this "win" to their future benefit. HOWEVER!!! More often than not
these technologies are tweeked slightly before being ratified so that
no company can successfully leverage their apparent leadership.


I am not sure when you say "THIS industry", probably meaning the networking business, however, just let me point out a great example of a technology that is covered with patents from A to Z and royalties are paid bigtime to Sony and Philips - CD ROM - oh, by the way, ISO 9660 is an International Standard.

Just some food for thought.
