Yeah, I think I've seen that commercial. Newt-bashing is such a vital tool in the Demo campaigning strategy, that I think the Demos will support Newt in his re-election (g). Of course, if Newt was gone, they would conspire with the press to make another Republican the target.

The bottom line is that the public will believe anything the press wants them to believe. Dole wants to cut taxes across the board, and now Joe Sixpack says, "No I don't need a tax cut...it will be bad for the deficit." I'd bet that most of these people don't even know what a deficit is--they are just repeating the "mantra" that the Demos and the press have them believe. In the last week, there have been Clinton supporters calling in to both Rush and Mary Matalin's shows. On all occasions, the host asks them why they are supporting Clinton. "Because he's a good president..." Then they are asked to name one thing that Clinton has done to make them feel he is a good prez. The response is universal--"Well, uhhh, because, um, because he uhh, well, he's done a lot of good things." Then they're asked why they don't support Dole. "Because he's MEAN, he's really mean." What has Dole done to make you think he's a mean guy. "I don't know, he's just mean..."

Yesterday, Mary Matalin asked a Clinton supporter who called in about Clinton's ethics. The caller replied, "Well what about Dole--he's a millionaire." Mary said, "Does being a millionaire automatically make him a bad guy?" The caller responded, "Yeah, well he bought some condo in Florida really cheap." Mary coyly said, " Oh well, if you want to talk about shady real estate deals, what about Clinton?" The caller didn't have a clue about what Mary was alluding to, so Mary said, "You know, Whitewater." The caller didn't even know what Whitewater was. Amazing.
