Is this good, bad, or ugly?
Posted it yesterday, but it must have gotten lost amongst the rubbish...
If radysis designs embedded computers, could this be integrated into FTEL's own DVG in order to enhance it, or is it simply another direct competitor?
I am ALL EARS, I will even accept comments indicating how stupid I am to post the below on this thread.
This is your chance for all you techno-wacos to really flame me.

RadiSys Demonstrates VGP-100: The Next Generation High Density, CompactPCI Voice Gateway Platform
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1998--RadiSys Corp., global pacesetter for custom embedded computers, today introduced at the Computer Telephony Conference and Exposition (Booth 1945) the RadiSys Voice Gateway Platform VGP-100, a CompactPCI(Note A) (cPCI), high-density, low cost, scalable system that delivers integrated next generation voice server and gateway telecommunications solutions now.
''In today's extremely competitive global telecommunications industry, OEMs pursue any technological advantage,'' said Arif Kareem, RadiSys Corp. vice president, Telecommunications Division, Hillsboro, OR. ''The most critical factors are density and cost per channel to optimize the cost/performance ratio for their customers. Our Voice Gateway Platform is a superb response to both needs.''
The RadiSys VGP-100 significantly reduces the cost per channel and increases density by a factor of 15x over current telephony architectures. When fully-configured, the VGP-100 delivers over 100 channels. Multiple systems can be integrated to deliver over 1000 channels.
''The completeness of this integrated solution,'' said Yogendra Jain, vice president of RadiSys DSP Design Center, ''gives design engineers a year head-start for development of voice and data over IP, Frame Relay, ATM, and other LAN/WAN networks. It permits them to focus exclusively on voice gateway development rather than low-level board and algorithm programming.''
''This platform optimizes flexibility for voice server and gateway manufacturers,'' Kareem added. ''Design engineers can use it as a development system, as a turnkey solution, or simply customize it for end-use products. It is ideal for such applications as voice and fax gateways, IP telephony, PBX, central office and wireless communication switches, pooled modems, and video conferencing, etc.''
At the heart of the VGP-100 is the RadiSys SPIRIT-6000, a 200MHz DSP board based on Texas Instruments' ultra-high performance C6201 processor. The RadiSys VGP-100 high-density system also features an EPC-100, a cPCI embedded PC with Intel Pentium(Note A) processor, a dual or quad E1/T1 network interface, the TASK-6000 telecom application specific kernel, and industry-standard algorithms, making it the most complete cPCI platform available for voice applications.
Algorithms optimized for the SPIRIT-6000 include three voice coders: G.729, G.723.1, and G.726, two of which are standardized for real-time voice transmission over networks. Other algorithms include DTMF/MF, G.165 Echo Cancellers, Voice Suppression, and Fax Relay.
''Ease of development and rapid time-to-market for our customers are the most significant benefits that accrue from this system,'' Kareem added. ''The RadiSys Voice Gateway Platform mandates the attention of OEMs for its ability to deliver superior performance, 'hot swap' capability, and for being the most complete, voice gateway base system available in the global telephony and networking market today.''
