ADM Tronics' Blood Treatment Device Approved for Distribution in Canada Business Wire - March 04, 1998 13:50
NORTHVALE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1998--ADM Tronics Unlimited Inc. (NASDAQ:ADMT) announced that its Knott Hemo-Irradiator, has been approved for distribution in Canada.
The device enhances a patient's immunological response by introducing ultraviolet energy into blood. ADM Tronics' newly acquired subsidiary, Precision Assembly Corp. (PAC), manufactures and distributes the device under a worldwide license.
The device treats blood-borne infections by intravenously delivering a controlled amount of ultraviolet energy using a disposable irradiation chamber. The treatment uses germicidal UV light waves to help stimulate the body's immune system and to increase venous oxygen levels. A measured sample of blood is drawn from the patient, mixed with anti-clotting solution, passed through the device's UV irradiation, and then returned to the patient. This technique is commonly referred to as Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation or UBI.
The approval allows the device to be marketed to physicians and those licensed to perform hematological treatments in Canada. In certain provinces, local distributors, having experience with medical devices, may be sought by the company to rapidly expand distribution of the device.
