Rodger -
Guess I'm paying too much for HD's, huh?
At those prices, yes your arguments are extremely valid, though I note a few posts above saying that perhaps portability is the key.
Another question for you. I'm not completely up to speed on Jazz's technology (so please correct me if I'm wrong), but if hard drive's are becoming larger and cheaper every day, doesn't the same hold true for Jazz's medium? I beleive IO's stated plan all along has been introduce the Zip and Jazz, create public awareness and demand, and then through mass production and new engineering ratchet the price down to mass consumer levels WITHOUT crushing margins. (a la the Zip Chip coming from the INTC, TI, MOT cartel).
This quarter and more importantly next quarter I think will show if IO can do this with the Zip (rebates). I think the jury is still out on Jazz, but the Malaysia plant kicks in this quarter, and Seagate could provide better prices and margins on Jazz discs than we're currently seeing. IMO we have not yet seen close to the best price we will for Jazz.
Again, this is all through my official Iomega Rose Colored Glasses, but I welcome your feedback
Thanks
