AirTouch Launches Digital Internet & E-mail Messaging
Company Also Expands Digital Coverage Area to Salem, Ore.
PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1998--AirTouch Cellular announced today that customers throughout Portland and Salem now can receive text messages sent to them via the Internet, e-mail or with the assistance of an operator on their AirTouch Powerband Digital phones.

Digital text messaging joins Caller ID, paging and voice mail with notification as the advanced features offered over the company's fully-digital Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network.

''Customers have told us that text messaging would be a valuable service if sending messages was easy for callers,'' said Joe Dodson, vice president and area general manager for AirTouch in the Northwest. ''With AirTouch's Powerband text messaging, it can't get any easier. For the first time, callers can send messages over the World Wide Web, E-mail or just push ''0'' and an operator will translate and deliver a verbal message.''

To send messages over the Internet, customers simply access AirTouch's Powerband home page. Using the AirTouch customer's seven-digit phone number as the Internet address, callers type in a message up to 50 characters in length. The e-mail message is delivered to the Powerband digital handset and displayed on the screen of the phone.

In addition to text messaging, AirTouch also announced that it has expanded its Powerband Digital coverage area to include Salem and the surrounding communities of Sherwood, Newberg, Wilsonville, Dallas, Canby, Mollala and Amity.

With the expanded coverage, AirTouch Cellular's Powerband Digital Service now stretches along Interstate 5 from Woodland, Wash. to Salem and along Highway 99 from Sherwood to Newberg. Service also is available on Highway 30 from Portland to St. Helens.

Today's announcement marks the final phase of the Powerband Digital launch in the Portland/Salem area. In July, 1997 the company launched digital voice service over its newly upgraded digital network. Digital features were introduced in September.
