You're right. Intel priced to drive its competition down. The problem
with that approach was that they had NO COMPETETION! AMD was its
own competition. So, what INTC did was increase profits for
the boxmakers rather than its own shareholders. The price cuts that
were intorduced over the past few months were completely unnecessary.

Intel may have a bunch of tech sense but they need to send their business
people back to school. This company had the greatest potential
out of all of the high tech companies out there. As it stands now, INTC
earned 6.7% for its sharehoders in 1997 and 1998 looks like it is going to
be a repeat performance. This is a long term problem and their approach
is unforgiveable..
