It's hard to say how much of what Intel is seeing is distribution channel shifts and adjustments vs. actual end-user demand, also impacts of AMD sales success and effects of reduction in CPU ASP.
Like you, I am waiting for one more price cut, for the PII 266 to get down in the $200 range, before buying (actually, probably building) a new PC. Also, waiting for the PII 350 and the BX chip set, MIGHT go that way depending on price but it will probably be more than I want to pay, so I will probably go PII 266. I do know of LOTS of people who are upgrading PC's there is a tremendous upgrade cycle in progress. But, frankly, I expected that to have a positive impact on Q1, so I am hesitant to predict a strong Q2 with a Q2 positive surprise. It is possible, however, given the introduction of the 100 MHz bus, price cuts and hopefully Win98. |
