Although a Cyrix fan I figured I would add my 2c.. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Is it a big surprise that the newest chips aren't selling well.. Businesses don't need PII power yet (now I know about photoshop houses and 3d rendering firms.. but that is only a small %).

Here what I see happening.. over the next 1-1.5 years low-low-middle will do well.. you don't need anything more for IE4.0 and Word98. During this time some key technologies will be deployed, like XDSL, and wide spread cable usage will start to become popular.

Now after this the demand for the high-end will jump up again. Why, well with fat pipes to the net everyone and their uncle will want to chat in a 3D vr world, maybe even voice chatting, instead of this blasted typing.

In about 1.5 years Voice Recognition will be WinXX XXX(X?), this will also draw more CPU power. In addition most PCs will be equipped with a video camera of some kind and telecommuting will become more popular.. this will drive CPUs (high-end) for about 3 years.. (mind you the low end will do well too, for those who just want to bang out a college report and check stock prices).

Thoughts?

Steve
