Umang Gupta is a fool. He got complacent, lost his edge and let PowerBuilder eat his lunch. If anyone is to blame for this mess it's him. I had lunch with him at a Gupta Developers Conference (hey remember those?) and someone asked him about PowerBuilder and he said 'We'll crush them, they don't have the products that we do, we invented client/server'. Borland was his biggest concern. By the time he woke up, it was to late. He proceeded to squander the IPO proceeds on panic attempts to stem the PB tide. If that wasn't enough, he steps in and kills the Infospinner deal. I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy for Umang Gupta. He had the products, the market timing and a substantial technological lead, he blew it plain and simple!
