Mark -

Over the last few weeks I have asked various people if they were familiar with the problem. Every single one had heard of it. Bear in mind these are people, in some cases, that wouldnt be able to turn on a computer. So I think the idea of the Y2K problem is out there. Perhaps the severity needs to be harped on more.

And they probably put Y2K on an equal "top 10" footing with Saddam Hussein, global warming & the ozone hole as "problems"...

I was speaking with the president of a well respected boutique investment banking firm tonight. I've spoken about Y2K with him previously. He handed me the party line... "the senior managers we speak with say the problem is well on the way to being solved." I tried to be diplomatic & leave him with the impression that there's a major FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE between the flag bridge and the stokers in the engine room.

Bottom line(s): (1) being aware of a 'problem' & doing something about it are two separate issues and (2) the suits simply don't get it yet.

This is a problem with a fixed deadline (something NO ONE has ever experienced before) in an industry/endevor that is notoriously incapable of meeting deadlines.
