Dwight, of course it is Bundy. And that story is amazing. Was she a Christian? I'm curious.
There was a time when I picked up hitchhikers because it seemed the decent and Christian thing to do , and hardly any of them were cruising serial killers yet...
Anyway, I do remember taking a trip up to the mountains and started to roll back down and I saw a neat looking guy with just a few things and his thumb out. I asked, "Lord, what do you want me to do? You want me to give this guy a ride?" I was looking at him and an electric feeling of terror went through my body. Didn't imagine it, didn't think it, didn't anything but feel it like you do when you hit an open socket. I went by and kind of smiled a little that "i'm sorry" smile people do when they don't pick up hitchhikers and that guy was good looking, but the horrible darkness in his eyes was something I can still see. He just glared with this horrible frown because I didn't stop, and he actually scared me looking at him.
You bet the Lord didn't want me to pick the guy up. He made it real, real clear.
I gave it all up very soon after that, as did all the do-gooders I knew. Just too much to lose. But that was very very interesting to me, the story you related. We need to listen to the inner voice. |
