Physics of nucleation (physical, boiling etc.) can have local pressure approach infinity in a solid lattice. Notice some of the methods used in Champion's methods. Milling can create shock waves where compressive shock waves can significantly exceed macro physical properties strength. Shock induced martensitic(sp?) transformations in iron is an example of very high pressure. So is shock induced creation of diamonds from carbon.
