Post says suit launched over damning report

Crystallex International Corporation KRYShares issued 340000001998-03-04 close $9.25Thursday Mar 5 1998Also Placer Dome Inc (PDG) The Financial Post reports in its Thursday, March 5, edition that Crystallex International launched a legal suit yesterday against Asensio & Co, a New York based institutional short seller, after it issued a report saying the junior miner has no chance of winning the rights to the gold at Las Cristinas. The Post's Sandra Rubin writes that Crystallex charges the short seller with disseminating false and misleading statements about the firm and its officers. Placer Dome and Crystallex are awaiting a ruling from the Venezuelan Supreme Court over the rights to Las Cristinas. But Asensio, which admits it has a "sizable" short position in Crystallex, jumped into the fray by initiating coverage of the miner with a report alleging it has no legal basis for its claim. It branded the shares a "strong sell." Crystallex issued a statement yesterday afternoon denouncing the report.
