I wonder if Mr. Rose is as cavalier about his salary, bonus, and stock options?

The fact of the matter is that shareholders of most growth companies are partners whose only means of being compensated is an increase in stock price (div, not withstanding). The very least their owed is a real effort to support the stock price.
Personally, I say a quick adios when I hear execs spout the attitude stated above.
