By the time the SQLWindows Solo fiasco happened, the battle was already lost. Umang never had a clue as to what his real market was. As soon as PowerSoft showed up on the scene, Gupta was in reaction mode. This has never changed. Umang did a brilliant job of building a small company into a mid sized company, but didn't have the tools to take it from there. He had too big of a ego to admit that and bring the right expertise until far too late. I think the Infospinner deal just reiterated that ego. I think that if the Infospinner deal had gone as planned (an outright purchase), the company would be looking an awful lot better than it is today. There's no question that the company would have needed to spend some time focusing on it's original products. As a developer, I would probably not been so happy about a focus away from the tools that I use but I would have had no problem with a stronger balance sheet.
