Subject: PowerLine As you know, Nortel & Norweb announced "powerline" which is a protocol that allows high-speed transmission of data signals over electrical power lines.
Customers can receive upstream and downstream Internet access at speeds ranging from 500 kbps to 1 mbps. The advance will also faciliate other forms of communication including videoconferencing and internet telephony. This service is currently in trial in Manchester, England, where Norweb is based and slated to be commercially deployed early this year.

So the question is> If the Utilities are sending data over their power lines, with the right "protocol", couldn't a DVG be used in this capacity?
IMAGINE> A electrical company using the phone over their own powerlines within a WAN or LAN for FREE, and for every customer they have online. For the public, all it takes is an Ethernet Card at their PC, and a universal serial bus at the power meter that will connect the PC's directly to the electrical network........and NO TYING UP PHONE LINES
The Utility industries and ISP/s in Europe and Asia have been inquiring about the product from Nortel & ( Norweb, a division of United Utilities of Great Britian).
Utilities setting up LAN's over electrical powerlines and using the Franklin Tempest?
ps....There are several trends that could cause utilities to embrace PowerLine technology and sell bandwidth to ISP's which have been looking for ways to add highpspeed services. I heard it could be 1/2 the cost of ISDN.
