David, there is quite a bit of difference. When the channel is "stuffed" you know that there are either inventory problems or the the manufacturer is attempting to book bogus sales. Unstuffing the channel will require companies like Compaq to drastically reduce prices, because being stuck with dead inventory in this business is the kiss of death. It's like having a warehouse full of last year's top CD.

But Dell really builds to order and as a result of very efficient inventory handling, it has virtually no inventory to speak of. So what Dell is doing is more properly called advertising.
