Duncan, when you say that you see no connection between better education and more spending, are you arguing that children learn just as well in buildings with broken windows, rain pouring in, no heat or air conditioning, and filthy bathrooms that don't work as in facilities which are clean and comfortable and functional? Did you read the article I urled with my post? Can you put yourself in the shoes of that child? Can you understand the messages he is getting about education? I don't think Washington DC has much to do with anything, incidentally. It is so extremely dysfunctional, and the poverty level of the children who go to public school there is so high, that I don't think you can make any useful correlations at all. Christine
