Ok, Ok, I'll clarify for the ignorant newcomers. Microsoft threatened to revoke Compaq's Windows95 license because Compaq had the timerity to slice and dice Bill's software by removing the sacred IE icon, thereby threatening the integrity and uniformity of the Windows95 experience. Also threatening Microsoft's sancrosanct intellectual property rights, or resisting Microsoft's unilateral declaration of ownership of the start-up screen, depending how you look at it. When this story came to light, Compaq, Gateway, and Micron were quick to come to Microsoft's defense with sincere professions of love and admiration. Rumor has it a few phone calls from one Joachim Kempin were involved, but who can say? I don't know where Dell figures into this, though.

Cheers, Dan.
