Intel<INTC.O>Ireland say not hit by profit warning
DUBLIN, March 5 (Reuters) - Intel Ireland, the Irish arm of U.S. personal computer maker Intel Corp <INTC.O>, said on Thursday its operations would be unaffected by the parent company's warning on first quarter earnings.
"We are not doing anything different this morning than we were doing yesterday morning," Intel Ireland media relations manager Liam Cahill said.
He said he did not expect any impact from Wednesday's statement that group net income and revenue would be lower than previously forecast.
Intel, which is responsible for a total of 5,300 jobs in Ireland, said first quarter earnings would be below expectations due to weaker demand for PCs and inventory and manufacturing changes at its PC makers.
The Irish jobs include 3,500 directly employed at Intel's operation at Leixlip, southwest of Dublin, 800 in contracted services, and 1,000 employed in building a new microchip plant on the site.
Intel currently operates two plants at Leixlip, a microchip facility, and a packaging plant for the Pentium II processor.
A third high-tech factory to produce the latest generation of Intel high-speed microchips is due for completion by the middle of the year.
"The timelines on that factory have been pulled in rather than pushed out," Cahill said.
The third factory will bring Intel's investment in Ireland to about $2.5 billion, confirming its status as the largest player in the Irish high-tech sector.
