I said 'offer' not bundle. Dell does not 'offer' Netscape over the phone, unless you are a large customer and demand it.

Quick poll: Why would DELL want to pay Netscape to bundle Navigator when he has IE for free? Sure, Netscape is free now, but at this point, who cares?

Quick answer:
#1) It's not Dell paying Netscape to bundle Navigator, it's Dell getting money from the consumer to get Netscape on the machine. Surely the company which advanced the 'build-to-order' style of computer sales can offer Netscape as an add-on.

#2) Dell wants to increase sales and bundling or offering popular applications is a standard way of promoting your computer. Netscape Navigator is the most popular piece of application software ever written. While there is no *proof* that something fishy is going on, there is a definite stink of fish.

You mean, they shouldn't be allowed to set the price of their product? Sure they can.
Sal, you're being disingenuous here. Is this a Senate Committee? Changing your pricing based on whether or not a customer toes your line with regards to dealings of a third party is illegal under certain conditions if you are a monopoly.

[Microsoft is] not really allowed to raise prices--and they don't.Of course they do. They just raised OS prices by $10. Besides, a monopoly still is subject to price regulation by the supply/demand curve. That doesn't prevent them from being a monopoly.
