Dell Extends Battle with Compaq to Israel: Will Examine 5 Israeli Computer Companies' Technologies Tomorrow
By Ronny Lifschitz
Dell, the world's largest computer company, will spend tomorrow reviewing the technologies of five Israeli high-tech companies, to examine the possibility of purchasing their products and introducing them into its international marketing network. The companies it will look at are: Gilat, Phasecom, Wave Access, Orckit, and Nogatech.
Other companies Dell is looking at, but which will not take part in tomorrow's meeting, include: Fortress, Nbase, Silicom, and BATM.
Each company will be allocated 90 minutes in which to present its products and technology. Afterwards, if Dell's representatives are interested, there will be further meetings the same day.
The US company is particularly looking for computer communications technologies, among other things in order to find a response to its largest competitor, Compaq, which has acquired computer communications companies in recent years, and a month ago announced the acquisition of Digital.
Dell intends to sign OEM agreements with the Israeli companies it selects, in order to market their products under the Dell brand name.
At the end of last year, Dell appointed ASCO, owned by Asa Yanai and located in New York, as its representative for finding Israeli technologies.
