ron,
In Ohio Nextel offers 700 minutes of cellular and unlimited "true" direct connect for $99
Is the unlimited direct connect listed on their page for ohio area? They don't list it for New York. I have to find out if they offer it. It could make Nextel a little more competitive with the BAM plan.
Bell Atlantic is not available (to the best of my knowldege) so I don't know what their plan includes.
You can look up the details on their web site: bam.com I just talked to them. It is pretty straight forward. If you use mobile to mobile only, it is $39 plus taxes. Their per minute charges for mobile to land are not competitive though.
One way to get a dispatch system to work with BAM plan (I am speculating here), is to get several CDMA phones for your office, connect their lines to your phone system, and communicate with people on the road through those lines.
Right now, we have only 1 Nextel base station, and it is not very convenient. You need to be able to put people on hold, transfer them around etc.
BTW when you leave town, does your CDMA phone function in every US city? Just curious.
I don't need anything beyond New York Tri-State area. If I did, Sprint offers 1000 minutes for $99, or 10c per minutes, no LD charges. They are in most places worth visiting. In others, you just use your dual-mode CDMA phone in analog mode (with appropriate roaming charges), or you can use Nextel, but I think Sprint offers the best deal here.
