Your post gave me enough direction that I was able to fill in the blanks
and derive quarterly earnings for Softworks for 1996 and 1997.

Fwiw, here's what I believe they did in the 3rd quarter that was so confusing.
Softworks' revenues were 6,850,000 from which they subtracted 472,000 for the
closure of certain subsidiaries and product lines and then added back in 279,000
for revenue for the remaining operations (d.b.express sales, Garbe division, etc.).
