UMC proposes 1997 stock div 2.90 twd

TAIPEI (AFX-ASIA) - United Microelectronics Corp said its board of
directors has proposed a 1997 stock dividend of 2.90 twd.
The proposal will be submitted to the May 5 AGM for approval, it said.
UMC closed up 1.00 at 81.00 twd on 118 mln shares traded.
